Lion Coat

A customer recently came to me to have a lion coat made for her Grandson. I instantly whizzed to check out the beautiful patterns by Twig + Tale formally Big Little Patterns)
I adore the coat and how it turned out. I wanted a patter that would make the coat look like a lion without looking like costume so these patterns are perfect!

The outside mustard colour fleece is a beautiful colour and so soft/smooth to touch, perfect for a lion

I lined the coat with Alexander Henry Safari fabric from the lovely people at Fondant Fabrics

The coat sewed up like a dream and I used both my regular Janome machine and my Singer 185k to help get me through the very thick layers

The lovely rust colour mane wool was bought locally from a fabric shop. I am itching next time to use more re-claimed fabrics to make my next jacket

There are so many other options for the coat and I can't wait to make a little rabbit one and a cape version too.

If you would like to purchase the jacket, I have them on sale in my Etsy shop Vincent & Valerie

Hello September

Well  had a crazy busy few months with orders taking off and an event last weekend which kept me very busy preparing for it

The event took place outside John Lewis Milton Keynes last weekend. I worked with my friend Beckie on the stall so we could promote our wedding shop. It is still in the early stages. We was very pleased with the set up though

The hair accessories and bunting proved the most popular. For the next couple of months though I am working with a boutique on creating a special range for her shop

Here is one of my favourite orders from the summer. A traditional sailor suit for a very handsome little boy who is tall for his age and had this suit made for a family wedding

If you wish to order a sailor suit (or any occasion wear) please contact me via Etsy Vincent & Valerie It can also be made with shorter shorts and a necktie

Dinosaur Baby Romper & Bonnet

A customer loved the look of the 1950s baby romper I made with dinosaur print and ordered for her grandson. It was a pleasure to make this for her. If you would like to order one please convo me at my shop Vincent & Valerie

I need to make it in the same style as the Butterick age 6 to 9 months, so I used Simplicity 1600 for the body but I fully faced the front panel, made extra long ties with loops to knot and added a snap panel

The back view and the bonnet visor can be flipped back

The dinosaur fabric is Timeless Treasures and I purchased it from Frumble

Free 1950s Children's Dungaree Sewing Pattern

I recently acquired a box of patterns to sort through and I found a couple of magazine clippings. They were a bit tatty but I have cleaned them a bit with editing and decided to share them free here. First up is the unisex overalls/dungarees pattern

Although you will need to draft the pieces from the diagram, it is a very versatile sewing pattern. You could omit the button on bib and have it as a one piece. There is the option of a short version for summer and you can add elastic to create bubble legs

The diagram is for inch graph paper. It is designed for a child age 2 to 3 years

I do hope you have found this useful and later this week I will also have a gorgeous dress with a yoke free pattern

In case you were wondering what was on the back :)
